A purple tomato striped with green and golden yellow, with a balanced flavor and notes of salt and smoke.
What I like about Fred Tie Dye is the appearance of its fruits, as if they had been colored using the tie-dye technique. Its medium-sized, round tomatoes have a purple base with green and golden-yellow stripes. Their balanced flavor is sometimes accompanied by notes of salt and smoke. The texture is tender and soft.
Its vigorous, productive dwarf plant is among the tallest of the dwarf varieties.
Fred Tie Dye resulted from a cross between Dwarf Wild Fred and Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye, made by Vince Lavallo. It was developed as part of the Dwarf Tomato Project, a collaborative dwarf tomato breeding project involving Craig LeHoullier.
Every variety has its own personality. The best tomato isn’t the one that everyone likes, but the one that finds its place in your garden, your kitchen, and your habits.
